DIRECT MAIL VS ADWORDS PAY-PER-CLICK

Dear Marketing Friend,

I’m writing to think out loud with you about two marketing channels. Two sources of customers for you.

Both are good ways go.

Both ways will cost you some money up front. The only way to know for sure if one method is better than the other is to TEST, TEST, TEST.

LISTEN: THESE are two sources of new customers you simply must take advantage of.

The two sources of customers have a lot in common.

#1. The first source of new customers is “targeted direct-response direct mail lists”.

#2. The second source is “adwords” – Pay Per Click.

Here is why they both have a lot in common.

With a direct-response mailing list… you know that they bought this or that BY MAIL… and … you know they are more likely to buy more of this or that as time goes buy. You see, no one buys just ONE item of this or that.

  • No one buys just one wig…
  • No one buys just one garden tool…
  • No one buys just one income opportunity.

So if you go after the people ON THIS LIST… you know what they bought and what they will likely buy again.

The mailing list of BUYERS of wigs, garden tools or income opportunities could be in the millions of names.

Now let’s look at Adwords Pay-Per-Click.

When someone goes to google, yahoo or bing, etc… and SEARCHES for wigs, garden tools, or income opportunities… the chances are… they are READY TO BUY right now. So, are you willing to PAY FOR EACH CLICK?

If… my friend… if you have the right kind of landing page… it just might pay off to pay $1 per click… or $5 per click… or maybe $100 per click.

What you must be willing to pay-per-click depends on how profitable it is to sell your product.

It depends on how many competitors you have who are bidding for those Pay-Per-Click (PPC) adwords.

And it depends on exactly which adwords you bid on.

You see… some adwords bring you buyers… and some adwords bring you “tire-kickers”.

And… Some adwords might be STRONG and PROFITABLE for you in September…. But they might be useless in April.

Some adwords might be HOT if the person searching sees a TEXT ad… but some might need to see a BANNER ad.

And get this… if your web page is not built for mobile phones… you’re gonna get hammered and waste your adwords PPC money.

If you have the right mailing package going out to the right mailing list, you could make money hand over fist.

The same is true for an Adwords PPC.

If you bid on the right word, at the right price, sending the reader to the right web page… you could make money hand over fist.

Finding new sources of customers at the right price is what marketing is all about.

And I want you to pick up the phone and let’s talk about one or both of these marketing channels.

If you want to do direct mail, I propose you get ready to spend some $5,000 a month to do all the work that needs done to make it into a success.

I don’t have a preference one over the other. Both direct mail and Adwords/PPC have their place in your marketing toolbox.

But one (direct mail) is based on past buying behavior. And the other (adwords/PPC) is based on what they are hopefully going to buy RIGHT NOW.
